Movement: Dandong P.9010
The Dandong P.9010 is a ground-up clone of the Panerai caliber. There are no decorative overlay plates — every bridge and gear on the movement is functional. The independent jumping hour hand works like gen: you can advance the local hour forward or backward in one-hour increments without stopping the balance wheel or disrupting the minutes and seconds. This is the correct behavior for the P.9010, and it's the thing that matters most for a Panerai GMT or timezone-tracking piece. The movement is automatic with a solid power reserve and stable timekeeping.
Dial: green sunburst sandwich
Panerai's sandwich dial construction uses two layers. The top disc has cut-out numerals and indices with an olive green sunray brushed finish. The bottom disc is filled with beige Super-LumiNova that glows through the cut-outs. VSF replicated this correctly — the lume isn't painted on top of a single disc, it shines through from underneath.
The blued steel hands are thermally treated rather than painted, giving them the correct deep blue tone that shifts under different light. Against the green sunburst dial, the contrast is strong, and legibility in low light is excellent.
Case: high-polish platinum look
The gen PAM01116 is solid platinum. VSF used 316L steel with a full mirror polish across all surfaces to replicate the heavy luster of Platinumtech. It's polished steel, not platinum, so the weight won't match — but the visual warmth of the polished surface gets closer to the platinum look than brushed steel would.
The cushion case is 44mm, and the signature lever-locking crown guard is engraved with "REG. T.M." The lever tension is set correctly to apply even pressure against the winding stem gasket, which matters for water resistance. It's a detail cheaper Panerai reps get wrong — the lever is either too loose or so tight it grinds against the case.
Strap
