The Panerai Submersible PAM00683 is the 42mm steel Submersible with a black ceramic bezel insert and electric blue accents. It takes the standard Submersible formula and upgrades the bezel from steel to ceramic, which means the insert will not scratch under normal wear and the matte black finish stays consistent over time. The blue small seconds hand and blue dial text are the only color on an otherwise black and white watch. It is a cleaner look than the all-steel versions. VSF got the ceramic insert and the blue accent matching right.

The bezel. The ceramic insert is the upgrade that defines the 683. It is matte black ceramic instead of brushed steel. Ceramic means scratch resistance and UV stability. The polished steel raised graduations sit on the ceramic insert for the first 15 minutes, then switch to dot markers. The contrast between polished steel and matte black ceramic is the most visually striking part of the watch. The bezel action is firm with clean clicks and the luminous pip at 12 is centered. VSF matched the ceramic finish correctly and the insert sits flush with the bezel edge.
The dial. Matte black with applied luminous indices and skeletonized hands. The lume is white in daylight. The "SUBMERSIBLE" text at 12 and the depth rating at 6 are printed in electric blue. The small seconds hand at 9 is the same blue. Three blue elements on an otherwise black and white dial. Enough to give the watch an identity without competing with the ceramic bezel. The blue is a specific shade. Not navy. Not aqua. Electric blue. VSF matched it correctly and the dial text is crisp with good weight.
The case. 42mm fully brushed steel. The brushing absorbs light and hides daily wear. The crown guard is brushed to match. The 42mm size is the middle ground in the Submersible range. Smaller than the 47mm oversized divers, larger than the 40mm Quarantas. It fits under a cuff and wears comfortably for a full day. The crown guard snaps with the same resistance as the larger models. The overall profile at 14.5mm thick is manageable without feeling slim.
The movement. Dandong P.900 automatic. Standard date quickset and small seconds at 9. No independent jumping hour hand. The P.900 was chosen to keep the 42mm case profile at 14.5mm. It is reliable and the winding feel is smooth. If the GMT function matters to you, the 42mm Submersibles with the P.900 are not the right choice. Look at the 44mm models with the P.9010. If the 42mm size and the ceramic bezel are what you want, the P.900 does its job.
The strap. Black rubber accordion diver strap with a brushed steel tang buckle. The accordion design flexes with wrist movement and expands over a wetsuit. The brushed buckle matches the case finish. The black rubber and black dial let the blue accents and the ceramic bezel carry the visual identity. Strap changes are fast and this case takes black rubber or NATO straps naturally. For actual water use the rubber is what you want.
