The Panerai Submersible Marina Militare PAM00979 is the monochrome version of the forged carbon dial Submersible. Same case and dial as the green-lume 961, but the 979 uses white Super-LumiNova on every luminous surface. White indices, white hands, white bezel pip, black OP logos on the strap. No color anywhere. It is the cleanest, most stripped-back look in the Carbon Submersible range. VSF Watch Factory got the forged carbon dial texture and the Carbotech case right.

The dial. Forged carbon with a marbled camouflage texture. Randomly compressed carbon flakes suspended in resin. The pattern is chaotic and changes with the light. No two dials are identical. White Super-LumiNova sits on top. The contrast is the strongest in the Submersible line. Black carbon, white lume, nothing else. "MARINA MILITARE" is printed at 6. The date at 3 and small seconds at 9 are standard Submersible layout. The monochrome palette is what defines the 979. It is the opposite of the blue-accented Carbon models like the 1616. No color injection. Just black and white. VSF got the forged carbon texture correct and the white lume is even across all the elements.
The case. 47mm Carbotech. Compressed carbon fiber sheets with a polymer binder. Matte black with visible layered striations. Each case pattern is unique. The crown guard and bezel are both Carbotech. The bezel has Carbotech graduations and rotates with firm clicks. The luminous pip is centered at 12. Carbon keeps the weight manageable at 47mm. Without it, a steel case this size wears heavy after a few hours. VSF's Carbotech finish is consistent with their other Carbon Submersibles.
The movement. Dandong P.9010 automatic. Independent jumping hour hand for time zone adjustment and date quickset through the hour hand. Neither stops the running seconds. The P.9010 is the correct movement for the 47mm Submersible. Winding is smooth and the date change is clean. Same movement architecture as the 961, the 1616, and the other 47mm Carbon models.
The strap. Black rubber accordion diver strap with black OP logos stamped on both sides. The black OP on black rubber is subtle. You have to look to see the branding. The accordion design flexes with wrist movement. The buckle is DLC-coated titanium with a tang closure. Titanium keeps the weight down and the DLC coating matches the Carbon case. Strap changes are fast and this case takes black rubber or grey NATO naturally. The all-black-and-white dial means any strap color works. The watch does not lock you into a color theme.
