The 228236 is the platinum Day-Date 40. A fluted bezel on platinum was a later addition from Rolex. Before that, platinum only came with the smooth bezel. The default platinum dial is ice blue, but this one uses a white mother of pearl dial with baguette diamond markers. It reads softer and more expensive than the ice blue version. VSF Watch got three things right here: the platinum PVD tone, the genuine MOP dial, and the DD3255 movement.

The dial. White mother of pearl, and no two pieces look the same. MOP shifts under different light angles with a subtle iridescence you do not get from a flat white lacquer dial. The hour markers are baguette-cut simulants, rectangular stones that read sharper and more modern than round diamonds. Day window at 12, date at 3. The platinum case with a white dial is a quiet-money combination. From across the room it does not announce itself as platinum. Up close the MOP texture gives it away to anyone paying attention.
The platinum look. Platinum PVD is harder to get right than gold. The tone is a cool white, not as grey as raw steel, not as bright as white gold. It has a heavier, more muted reflectivity. VSF used vacuum plating and the color direction is correct. The one thing plating cannot replicate is weight. Real platinum is denser than gold and noticeably heavier on wrist. The steel version feels lighter in a way you will notice the first time you pick it up. That is a material limitation, not a factory flaw.
The bezel. The fluted bezel on platinum is a modern update. Vintage platinum Day-Dates were smooth-bezel only. The fluted bezel on platinum reads differently than it does on yellow gold. Less flash, more industrial precision. Polished surfaces. Under good light the facets produce a continuous ring of white reflection around the dial.
The movement. DD3255, VSF's custom Day-Date caliber. 72 hours of power reserve. Day and date snap over instantaneously at midnight, same behavior as the genuine movement. Quickset date via the crown. This movement runs across the entire VSF Day-Date line and has been on the market long enough that the reliability is a known quantity.
The bracelet. President with the semi-circular three-piece links. Polished center links, brushed outer links. Hidden folding clasp. The platinum PVD on the bracelet will pick up fine surface marks with daily wear. Real platinum develops a patina over time, and the plated version will show its own wear pattern. Different cause, similar visual effect.
The takeaway. The 228236 is an unusual configuration within the platinum Day-Date range. White MOP dial instead of ice blue. Baguette-cut diamonds instead of round. It is quieter than any yellow gold Day-Date. From a distance it does not read as anything obvious. Up close the MOP gives you something to look at. If you like the Day-Date form factor but find full yellow gold too loud, platinum with MOP is a restrained alternative with enough texture to keep it interesting.
