The Datejust 36 in two-tone Everose is one of the reference's classic configs. The fluted motif dial is what sets this 126231 apart from the flat sunburst dials that make up most of the line. It is a laser-etched geometric pattern that plays off the fluted bezel. Add the rose gold two-tone Jubilee and the DD3235 movement with its genuine 72-hour reserve, and VSF has the core of this reference right.

The dial. Slate grey fluted motif. The pattern is laser-etched into the dial surface, a geometric texture that catches light differently from a flat sunburst. It is not painted on. The etching gives the dial depth that moves as you tilt your wrist. Rose gold baton markers with lume sit on top, and the contrast between the cool grey and the warm rose gold is what makes the dial work. The cyclops magnifier sits over the date at 3. The fluted motif is one of the harder Datejust dials to get hold of in genuine form, which makes it a sensible thing for a factory to copy.

The gold. Two-tone Everose. The case body is 904L steel, with rose gold plating on the bezel and crown. VSF's Everose tone leans into the copper side of the formula rather than the brassy side, which is where cheaper plating tends to fail. The warm tone against the slate grey dial is deliberate. Cold dial, warm metal.

The case. 36mm, about 11.7mm thick. In a market full of 41mm everything, 36mm is the Datejust's original proportion and it wears small in a good way. It slides under a shirt cuff without resistance and sits flat on the wrist. The fluted bezel is rose gold plated and polished. The facets throw light in a ring around the dial.

The movement. Dandong 3235. This is the clone caliber that VSF uses across its Datejust line, and it is the main reason to pick VSF over the alternatives. The 72-hour power reserve is real, not a spec-sheet claim. Take it off Friday evening and it is still running Monday morning. The date snaps over at midnight. Timekeeping is stable enough to not be a concern.

The bracelet. Jubilee with five-piece links. The outer links are brushed steel and the three center rows are polished rose gold plate. The Jubilee is more flexible on the wrist than the Oyster, and it conforms to smaller wrists better. Concealed Crownclasp keeps the closure clean.

The takeaway. This is a two-tone Datejust done properly. The fluted motif dial is the reason to look twice, the DD3235 is the reason to buy it, and the 36mm case is the reason it works as a daily wear. It is not a loud watch, but the dial and the rose gold give it enough going on that you will not get bored looking at it.
