The baton version lets the palm pattern carry the dial. The diamond version puts sparkle on top of the pattern, and the two compete a bit. The diamonds sit in polished metal surrounds. The effect is a dial that is busy in two different ways at once. Some people love the combination, some prefer the cleaner baton. Date at 3 under the cyclops.

Both are the same watch underneath, so this comes down to how much sparkle you want on an already busy dial.
