The platinum Daytona — the "Platona" — has always been the hardest Daytona to replicate. Not because of the dial or the bezel, though those aren't easy either. Because of the weight. Solid platinum is dense in a way that steel isn't, and a steel Daytona rep with an ice blue dial feels wrong the moment you pick it up. Previous attempts to add mass either bulked up the case or stuffed tungsten beads into the bracelet links, both of which created their own problems.

VSF Watch V3 Heavyweight Edition gets the watch to 175.3 grams — a 12-gram jump from the V2 — without touching the case dimensions. The movement is the Dandong 4131. Here's how it all fits together.

1. Weight: 175.3g without the bulk

The V2 ran about 163 grams. The V3 adds 12 grams through a more refined high-density material integration in the case and bracelet. The case thickness and diameter haven't changed. VSF kept the Daytona's slim profile.

This matters because other heavyweight Daytona reps on the market add weight the lazy way: thicker casebacks, thicker mid-cases, or both. The watch gains mass but loses its profile. A Daytona that sits 13mm tall instead of 12mm reads as wrong on the wrist, even if the dial looks perfect. VSF's approach keeps the dimensions at 1:1.

2. Bracelet: seamless vs. tungsten plugs

The standard heavyweight method is tungsten alloy plugs pressed into the steel bracelet links. It adds weight, but at a cost. The plugs create visible seams where they meet the steel. Over time, dirt collects in the gaps. The plating at the link edges starts to peel. After a few months of daily wear, the bracelet looks like what it is: two different materials forced together.

VSF's V3 bracelet uses an integrated high-density material process. The links are seamless — no visible joints, no gaps, no peeling edges. Under macro, the link sides are smooth and uniform. The bracelet drapes the way it should.

3. Movement: Dandong 4131

The Dandong 4131 is the same movement VSF uses across their 126xxx Daytona line. Integrated chronograph architecture with a column wheel and vertical clutch. The chronograph pushers engage with a clean click, the seconds hand resets without stutter, and the crown positions feel correct.

Power reserve is 72 hours. The bridges have the correct layout and finishing. Through the display case back, the rotor engraving and Geneva striping match the gen spec. This isn't a modified 7750 — it's a ground-up clone of the Rolex 4131, and the difference shows in both reliability and feel.

4. Dial and bezel

The ice blue dial is the reason the Platona exists as a reference. It's a cool, metallic sunburst that shifts from bright silver-blue at the center to a deeper tone at the edges. VSF molded the dial from a gen specimen, and the color match is close. Under natural light, the sunburst radiates evenly without banding.

The hour markers are baguette-cut synthetic diamonds, set cleanly into the dial. The chestnut brown Cerachrom bezel is the other half of Platona's visual identity. VSF fired the ceramic to match the gen's specific brown tone, and the tachymeter numerals are engraved and filled with a platinum-toned dusting rather than painted.

5. What to check in QC

Weight is the first thing: 175.3 grams on a calibrated scale. If the seller can't show you the scale reading, assume it's V2 or older stock. Check the bracelet link sides under macro — if you see seam lines or gaps between materials, it's not the V3 seamless construction. The movement should be the Dandong 4131 with the correct bridge layout and rotor engraving.

Bottom line: The V3 is a weight upgrade that doesn't sacrifice the case profile or the bracelet construction. 175.3 grams is close enough to the platinum density that the watch feels right in hand. The Dandong 4131 is the most reliable Daytona clone movement available. If you care about the Platona as a complete watch — weight, profile, movement, bracelet feel — rather than just the ice blue dial, the V3 is the version to get. Production runs are small because the seamless bracelet manufacturing is slow and the Dandong 4131 supply is constrained. If stock is available, it won't last.
